Wutan
Chinese Kickboxing places greater emphasis on skill rather than
aggression and training will appeal to the fitter and younger serious
minded martial artist.
This
system is not similar to European style boxing with a few kicks thrown
in; Wutan Chinese Kickboxing is derived from Tibetan Craine,
Yek Chia Chuan, and Tar Cheo
systems.
Tibetan
Crane is a long-range fighting system with emphasis on Poa (throw), Chou (rush), Shau
(sweep), and Pea (whip).
Yek
Chia Chuan is a
close-contact fighting system taught by General Yek
to his Mongol army invaders during the Sung Dynasty (960-1275).
Tar
Cheo sytem heavily
emphasizes foot-fighting.
The
rules of Western boxing and exciting Thai Boxing ring fighting are applied
to hundreds of punching and kicking techniques of these traditional
Chinese fighting sytems. Such techniques also include the use of knees, elbows and weapons,
and is designed to be suitable for practice by both men and women
under the age of thirty five. They can be used for self-defense, body toning, stamina training and
competition. Regular gradings and tournaments
are held for both light and full contact fighting.
Gradings
Gradings are held every three months, for students who attend at minimum
of twelve lessons and show a disciplined attitude towards the school and
their training.
Competitions
Wutan
Club competitions are held regularly, where there is the opportunity for
students to compete in points sparring, semi contact sparring with other students
of a similar experience level. (The men and women fight in separate
categories). There is also Stick Sparring, Kung Fu, and Tai Chi forms,
and some times Pushing Hands and Full Contact Kickboxing. Students who do
extremely well in the competitions are sometimes invited to train with Sifu They and enter National Competitions. There is
also a very exciting display from the Wushu Team.
Buying a Licence and a uniform
Students
can try four lessons before deciding whether to join the school. Before the
first grading students must buy a licence, which cost £20 for one year, a
uniform (and a pair of semi contact sparring gloves if they wish to
participate in sparring, which is optional.
